Minor irritation because opening files from the local OneDrive folder with autosave on (so you had a choice whether to use autosave or not) was good but I guess it is not the end of the world. Probably the files seen on the PC are actually the online OneDrive files rather than locally saved files. Autosave does work on my Window PCs - any file opened comes up with autosave on. This means that Word is quietly saving the document you are working on without you needing to manually tell the software to do so.
As to why autosave appeared for the local Office 365 OneDrive files and then disappeared after the Mojave update, I have no idea and it appears no one else does.
